Description
Warm Leatherette is the fourth studio album by Grace Jones and a landmark release in her career. Originally released in 1980, the album marked a major departure from her earlier disco sound, embracing a darker combination of reggae, funk, dub, new wave and post-punk influences.
Recorded at Compass Point Studios in Nassau, Bahamas, the album features the renowned rhythm section of Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare, alongside musicians including Wally Badarou, Barry Reynolds and Mikey Chung.
The album features Jones's distinctive interpretations of “Private Life” by The Pretenders, “Love Is The Drug” by Roxy Music, “The Hunter Gets Captured By The Game” by The Marvelettes and “Breakdown” by Tom Petty, alongside the title track and the original composition “A Rolling Stone.”
Warm Leatherette is widely regarded as one of the defining albums of Jones's Compass Point period and an essential release in the development of early-1980s new wave, reggae and funk.
