Shiny Beast (Bat Chain Puller) is the tenth studio album by Captain Beefheart And The Magic Band. Originally released in 1978 in the United States, it marked a return to the Captain's eccentric blend of blues, avant-garde rock, experimental music and highly individual songwriting.
The album features the distinctive vocals and instrumentation of Don Van Vliet, alongside Jeff Moris Tepper, Richard Redus, Bruce Fowler, Eric Drew Feldman, Robert Williams and Art Tripp.
Recorded at The Automatt in San Francisco, the album includes some of Beefheart's most celebrated later-period compositions, including The Floppy Boot Stomp, Tropical Hot Dog Night, Bat Chain Puller and Suction Prints.
