Description

Exclusive to Rockabuy Records - Black Vinyl with hype sticker

Having forged a reputation for their fiery live shows following gigs with Lottery Winners, Courteeners and The Reytons as well as attracting huge festival crowds at The Isle of Wight, Truck and Tramlines, The Clause now fulfill their immense potential with their debut album Victim of a Casual Thing.

Following in the chart success of the likes of The K’s and The Royston Club, the Birmingham four-piece are the next band to prove that indie-rock thrills speak to a new generation. As we’ve heard on recent singles ‘Nothing’s As It Seems’ and ‘Elisha’, they excel at stirring, hook-heavy anthems built for pints-in-the-air chaos at gigs and festivals alike. But elsewhere - especially on their latest track ‘Tell me What You Want’ - they’re also masters of big riffs and sleek grooves which feel like their era’s answer to the likes of Foals and Bloc Party.

While Victim of a Casual Thing is their debut, it also features some of the moments which have soundtracked their rise so far. Their breakthrough moment ‘In My Element’ and fellow live favourite ‘I Don’t Care’ still shine with youthful attitude and instant accomplishment. But it also presents much more of a bigger future to come: see the slow-burning grandeur of ‘Exception’ or the folk-tinged balladeering of ‘Pink Moon’ for evidence. All roads lead to ‘Don’t Blink’ which constantly builds in stature to sign-off on a joyous note.

And there’s plenty to relate to throughout the course of the record. It’s packed full of stories of daring to dream and wanting more from life; of fleeting connections and faltering romances; of wild nights and the next morning’s recovery. It’s the sound of four still-youthful friends continuing a dream they’ve shared since they were sixteen-years-old. Where it will eventually take them is yet to be written, but doing precisely what they want in the here-and-now is all that matters.
