Description

For The Roses is the fifth studio album by Joni Mitchell and a beautifully intimate, sophisticated recording that marked an important stage in the development of her songwriting and musical style.

Released in 1972, the album bridges the deeply personal folk songwriting of Blue with the increasingly complex jazz-influenced sound that would define much of Mitchell’s later work.

Featuring the classic You Turn Me On I’m A Radio, alongside standout tracks including Cold Blue Steel And Sweet Fire, For The Roses, Barangrill, Woman Of Heart And Mind and Judgement Of The Moon And Stars (Ludwig’s Tune), the album remains one of Joni Mitchell’s most acclaimed recordings.

A beautifully written and atmospheric album from one of the most influential singer-songwriters of all time.

Pressing Notes

UK 1972 Asylum Records pressing, catalogue number SYLA 8753 / 1E 064 ◦ 93984.

Issued in a distinctive gatefold picture sleeve, this UK edition forms part of the album’s original 1972 release period.

The exact matrix numbers have not been supplied for this copy, so it is conservatively identified as a 1972 UK pressing rather than a confirmed A1/B1 first pressing.

The earliest documented UK copies are associated with A1/B1 matrices, making the deadwax details important when identifying the exact pressing variation.

A desirable original-era UK analogue pressing of one of Joni Mitchell’s most celebrated albums.
