Description
This Was is the landmark debut album by Jethro Tull, originally released in October 1968. It captures the band at the beginning of their career, combining British blues, jazz, folk and psychedelic rock with the distinctive flute playing and vocals of Ian Anderson.
The album also features original guitarist Mick Abrahams, whose blues-rock style is particularly prominent throughout the record. Highlights include My Sunday Feeling, Some Day The Sun Won't Shine For You, Beggar's Farm, Dharma For One, Cat's Squirrel and A Song For Jeffrey.
This is the rare original UK first-press mono edition, making it a particularly desirable copy for collectors of early Jethro Tull and original Island Records pressings.

Pressing Notes
Original 1968 UK first pressing on Island Records, catalogue number ILP 985.
The first pressing is identifiable by its rough-textured pink Island label with the orange/black 'eye' logo and Chrysalis butterfly logo, without the later "Made in England" text. It is housed in the distinctive wide-spined, front-laminated internal flipback gatefold sleeve.
The mono edition is considerably rarer than the contemporary stereo pressing, which was issued under catalogue number ILPS 9085.
