Description
Shopaholic is the only full-length album by Manchester indie outfit The Wood Children. Released in 1989, it perfectly captures the flourishing British independent music scene of the late 1980s, combining jangly guitars, psychedelic influences and melodic alternative rock. Although overlooked upon its original release, the album has since developed a loyal cult following and is now regarded as one of the hidden gems of the era.
Pressing Notes
Original 1989 UK first pressing on Demon Records, catalogue number FIEND 155. This copy features the desirable A1/B1 first-cut matrices together with the original etched runout messages "Can You Afford This?" and "Can You Live Without It?", confirming it as the earliest UK issue.
Released during the final years before compact discs became the dominant music format, Shopaholic was pressed in relatively modest quantities. Original UK first pressings are now increasingly difficult to find and remain highly sought after by collectors of Manchester, indie and alternative rock vinyl.
