Description

Released in May 1969, Tommy is The Who's groundbreaking rock opera and one of the most influential concept albums ever recorded. Written primarily by Pete Townshend, the double album tells the story of Tommy Walker, a boy rendered "deaf, dumb and blind" following a traumatic childhood event who ultimately becomes an unlikely spiritual leader through his extraordinary ability as a pinball champion.

Musically, Tommy pushed the boundaries of what rock music could achieve, blending hard rock, acoustic folk, psychedelia and theatrical storytelling into a cohesive narrative that redefined the album format. Roger Daltrey delivers one of his finest vocal performances, while Pete Townshend's ambitious songwriting is complemented by John Entwistle's thunderous bass work and Keith Moon's explosive drumming.

The album features some of The Who's most enduring compositions including Pinball Wizard, I'm Free, See Me, Feel Me, Christmas, The Acid Queen, Amazing Journey and We're Not Gonna Take It. Its enormous success established The Who as one of Britain's premier rock bands and laid the foundation for future rock operas and concept albums.

Today, Tommy remains one of the defining recordings of classic rock and is widely regarded as one of the greatest albums ever produced.
