Released in October 1980, More Specials marked a bold musical evolution for The Specials, expanding beyond the ska revival that made them famous and embracing elements of lounge, jazz, soul, reggae, calypso and early new wave. Produced by the band alongside Jerry Dammers, the album demonstrated an adventurous approach to songwriting while retaining the sharp social commentary and unmistakable 2 Tone identity that defined the group.

Featuring the hit singles Stereotype, Do Nothing, Rat Race and International Jet Set, the album combines infectious rhythms with witty observations on consumerism, class, politics and modern British life. Terry Hall's understated vocals, Lynval Golding and Neville Staple's harmonies, Roddy Radiation's distinctive guitar work and Jerry Dammers' inventive keyboard arrangements make More Specials one of the most unique and influential British albums of the early 1980s.

Widely regarded as one of the defining releases of the 2 Tone era, More Specials remains an essential album that successfully bridges ska, pop and experimental music while influencing generations of alternative and British bands.

Pressing Notes

Original 1980 UK first pressing on 2 Tone Records, catalogue number CHR TT 5003, manufactured and distributed by Chrysalis Records. This copy features the classic black and white 2 Tone labels and includes the original colour fold-out poster along with the bonus promotional 7-inch single "Braggin' & Tryin' Not To Lie / Rude Boys Outa Jail", housed in its original sleeve. The front cover retains the original pink hype sticker advertising the inclusion of "Stereotype / International Jet Set."

Complete first pressings with the poster and bonus single are becoming increasingly sought after by collectors of 2 Tone and ska memorabilia.
