Description
What Difference Does It Make? is one of The Smiths' most celebrated singles, originally released in 1984 from their critically acclaimed self-titled debut album. Written by the legendary songwriting partnership of Morrissey and Johnny Marr, the track combines jangling guitar melodies with Morrissey's distinctive lyrical style, helping to establish The Smiths as one of the defining British bands of the 1980s.
This highly sought-after 12-inch single features the original Terence Stamp picture sleeve, depicting a still from the 1965 film The Collector. Following objections from the actor regarding the use of the image, the sleeve was quickly withdrawn and replaced with the now-famous Morrissey recreation, making original Terence Stamp sleeve copies particularly desirable amongst collectors.
Pressing Notes
Original 1984 UK Rough Trade 12-inch pressing, catalogue number RT 146. This scarce first issue is housed in the original Terence Stamp picture sleeve, making it one of the earliest and most collectible versions of the single. Pressed on heavyweight vinyl and featuring exclusive B-sides unavailable on the album, original Terence Stamp sleeve editions remain one of the standout collectables in The Smiths' catalogue.
