The Beatles' iconic second UK single and the record that gave the band their first major breakthrough. “Please Please Me” / “Ask Me Why” was released in January 1963 and became a major early Beatles hit.
This highly desirable copy is pressed on the original red Parlophone label with silver print, a scarce early variation that predates the more common black Parlophone label.
Pressing Notes
Original 1963 UK red Parlophone pressing, catalogue 45-R 4983. The earliest copies were issued with red Parlophone labels, with EMI subsequently changing to the familiar black label during 1963. The red-label pressing is found with variations both with and without “MADE IN GT. BRITAIN” beneath the Parlophone trademark.
The original first-pressing matrices are 7XCE 17217-1N for “Please Please Me” and 7XCE 17218-1N for “Ask Me Why”.
