Description

Can't Buy A Thrill is the outstanding debut studio album by Steely Dan and the record that introduced the distinctive songwriting partnership of Donald Fagen and Walter Becker.

Originally released in 1972, the album blends rock, jazz, pop and sophisticated studio production to create the unmistakable sound that would define Steely Dan's remarkable career.

Featuring the classics Do It Again, Reelin' In The Years and Dirty Work, alongside standout tracks including Midnite Cruiser, Kings, Only A Fool Would Say That and Brooklyn (Owes The Charmer Under Me), Can't Buy A Thrill remains one of the most acclaimed debut albums of the 1970s.

Pressing Notes

UK MCA Records reissue, catalogue number MCL 1769.

This copy features the MCL 1769 A2 / MCL 1769 B3 matrix combination. The documented A2 variant carries an earlier ABCL 5024 A2 matrix which has been crossed out and replaced with the later MCL 1769 catalogue reference.

This indicates that the pressing was produced using existing UK metalwork associated with the earlier ABC catalogue issue before being reidentified for release under the MCA MCL series.

Although not an original 1972 UK first pressing, this is an interesting UK analogue reissue with links to earlier UK mastering and production metalwork.
