Released in 1987, it gathers the band's seminal 12-inch single versions from 1981 to 1987, documenting their transformation from the post-punk legacy of Joy Division into one of the most innovative electronic acts of their generation. This 1987 UK second pressing was released on Factory Records, catalogue number FACT 200, and is distinguished by its smooth, non-embossed outer sleeve, replacing the embossed finish found on the earliest issue. The album retains Peter Saville's iconic minimalist artwork, the original picture inner sleeves and the same highly regarded analogue mastering as the first pressing. The non-embossed edition is recognised by collectors as the second commercial UK pressing and remains a highly desirable Factory Records release.
