Description

“Blue Monday” is one of the most iconic electronic singles of the 1980s and a defining release in the history of New Order and Factory Records.

Originally released in March 1983, the track combines electronic dance music, synth-pop, post-punk and club influences, driven by its instantly recognisable sequenced bassline, drum machine rhythm and distinctive synthesiser melodies.

Backed by “The Beach”, the single became a landmark release for New Order and remains one of the most influential 12” singles of its era.

The original UK edition is particularly recognisable for its innovative packaging, designed by Peter Saville and Brett Wickens. The sleeve was created to resemble a 5¼-inch floppy disk, with a die-cut outer sleeve and coded colour blocks rather than conventional printed artist and title information.
