Description
Motörhead is the explosive debut studio album by Motörhead and the record that introduced the raw, uncompromising sound of Lemmy, “Fast” Eddie Clarke and Phil “Philthy Animal” Taylor.
Released in 1977, the album combines hard rock, heavy metal, punk energy and relentless rock ‘n’ roll into the unmistakable sound that would define Motörhead’s legendary career.
Featuring the classic title track Motörhead, alongside Vibrator, Lost Johnny, Iron Horse / Born To Lose, White Line Fever, Keep Us On The Road, The Watcher and The Train Kept A-Rollin’, this landmark debut remains one of the most important British heavy rock albums of the 1970s.
The sleeve also introduced Joe Petagno’s iconic Snaggletooth War-Pig artwork, which would become synonymous with Motörhead.
Pressing Notes
Early 1977 UK pressing on Chiswick Records, catalogue number WIK 2.
This copy features the WIK 2 A1 / WIK 2 B2 matrix combination and is housed in the distinctive fully laminated black-and-white picture sleeve.
Some original sleeves are known with the catalogue number incorrectly printed as WLK 2 at the bottom of the rear sleeve, an unusual original sleeve printing variation associated with early copies.
The earliest recognised UK first pressing is associated with A1/B1 matrices, making this A1/B2 copy an early original-era UK pressing rather than a definitive first pressing.
The fully laminated sleeve and early matrix combination make this a particularly desirable collector’s copy of Motörhead’s legendary debut album.
