Description
Are You Glad To Be In America? is one of James 'Blood' Ulmer's most groundbreaking recordings and a landmark album in the fusion of jazz, funk, punk and avant-garde music.
Released in 1980, the album captures Ulmer's unique harmolodic guitar style, developed under the influence of Ornette Coleman, while combining razor-sharp rhythms with socially conscious songwriting and fearless improvisation. It remains one of the defining albums of New York's downtown music scene.
Featuring standout tracks including Layout, Pressure, Jazz Is The Teacher (Funk Is The Preacher), T.V. Blues and the title track, the album is regarded as one of the essential recordings of the era.
Pressing Notes
Original 1980 UK pressing on Rough Trade Records, catalogue number ROUGH 16.

The LP features performances by an exceptional group of musicians including David Murray, Oliver Lake, Olu Dara, Amin Ali, Ronald Shannon Jackson and G. Calvin Weston.
Original UK Rough Trade pressings are highly regarded for their powerful analogue sound and remain increasingly sought after by collectors of avant-garde jazz and experimental funk.
