Description

Black And Dekker is the 1980 Stiff Records album from Jamaican reggae and ska legend Desmond Dekker. Released during the resurgence of ska and reggae in the UK, the album saw Dekker revisit some of his best-known recordings with updated arrangements and backing from musicians associated with the British ska and new wave scene.

The album features reworked versions of some of Dekker’s most celebrated songs, including “Israelites”, “It Mek”, “007 (Shanty Town)” and “Many Rivers To Cross”, alongside further reggae and ska favourites.

Released by Stiff Records at the height of the late-1970s/early-1980s ska revival, the album represents an interesting meeting point between the original Jamaican reggae tradition and the contemporary British ska movement.

Provenance

Previously owned by Chris Gabrin, the official photographer for Stiff Records.

This copy has a particularly interesting connection to the Stiff Records label, having previously belonged to Chris Gabrin, who worked as the official photographer for Stiff Records. Gabrin photographed many of the label’s artists and releases during its influential late-1970s and early-1980s period.

This provenance makes the record especially interesting to collectors of Stiff Records memorabilia, British ska and reggae history.
