Description
Metal Box is the second studio album by Public Image Ltd. and is widely regarded as one of the most influential post-punk albums ever recorded. Released in 1979, the album saw John Lydon, Jah Wobble and Keith Levene move far beyond the conventions of punk rock, creating a groundbreaking blend of dub, experimental rock, avant-garde music and post-punk. Featuring tracks such as "Albatross", "Poptones", "Careering" and "Death Disco" ("Swan Lake"), the album remains a landmark recording that continues to influence alternative music today.
Pressing Notes
Original UK first pressing issued on Virgin Records under catalogue number METAL 1. The album was famously released as three 12-inch records housed inside a circular metal film canister embossed with the PiL logo. The innovative packaging gave the album its title and has become one of the most iconic presentations in vinyl history. First press copies include the original metal tin and protective dividers separating the records. Complete examples are highly sought after by collectors and are considered among the most important artefacts of the post-punk era.
